When it comes to elaborate elegance, it will be hard to top this destination wedding in Thailand. Faiza Lalani and Jason Dhatt were married in front of 95 guests to cap off a week-long series of events representing their Sikh and Ismaili backgrounds, with some Thai traditions, too. Here’s what they had to say.
Our Unique Details
At the Ismaili ceremony, baby tigers were brought in, and for the Punjabi ceremony, Jason arrived riding on an elephant. We had wishing lanterns, adhering to a Thai tradition, where guests make wishes and send lanterns floating above the ocean.
Favourite Moments of the Day
There was a pad thai and pancake cart to provide midnight snacks, fireworks, and a fire dancer who put on an amazing show. We flew in the DJ from Malaysia and a semi-choreographed first dance.
The Toughest Part to Plan
The accommodation for our guests. Thailand is not set up for big groups and finding an area where everyone could stay with communal centres that our guests would be able to afford was tough. But we did it!
What Went Wrong
I bought a beautiful pair of shoes – but couldn’t wear them because my feet were too swollen!
What Would You Change
The only thing I would have done differently is stayed longer! We had such a good time the entire week. It’s true what they say: you blink and all the planning, effort and time is gone!
Overall Feeling
We were so blessed to have everyone around us. And we were happy to say we pulled it off, because there were times that we thought everything was going to go sideways. We are grateful to everyone that guided and supported us.
